It's in all the headlines!

With the NASDAQ and the Dow trading at an all time high, Wall Street couldn’t be happier. Retail sales are climbing. Car sales are going up and especially fuel efficient cars. Employment is going up while unemployment is going down. Companies looking for good skilled workers. Technology is on the rise. Especially alternative energy technology. Sales tax revenue increasing for many cities. Natural gas production up and prices going down. Job prospects for college graduate are looking better. Over all, lots of good news for the American economy. All in spite of rising oil prices. And all without the aid of a Canadian oil pipeline.

However, and I guess left in the lurch, are Mit Romney and Newt Gingrich. Both gentlemen are under the impression the economy is getting worse. And blaming Obama for the state of the American economy. Hmm? Well, I should hope so. He’s done a pretty good job.

Haven’t these Republican candidate guys heard the good news? Are Mit and Newt living in a cave near Death Valley? Out of touch? Have they lost their cable subscription? Are they not reading the daily newspapers? Or, are they just clueless? Ill informed? Somebody, please help these guys get up to speed on current events.

And these guys want to be President? President of what? Afghanistan? Iran? Cat Man Doo? Holy Moly!

And the search goes on and on and on...

Being a former member of the Republican Party, I would vote for Richard Nixon before voting for the current lack-luster field of nare-do-wells. Dwight Eisenhower would certainly be a better choice. None the less, why can’t the Republicans find another Abraham Lincoln.? If pushed into a corner, I just might vote for Berry Goldwater, maybe. Possibly even Gerald Ford.



But vote for Mit, Newt, Rick, or Paul? Never. Never ever. Not ever or never. All are mental midgets compared to the afore mentioned Republican giants.



Tricky Dick please come back. I liked Ike. Berry and Jerry, please come back to help.



The bigger question is, why is the Republican Party’s collective heads buried in the dirt? Do you not see the problems in America? Contrary to campaign sloganeering, we still need jobs. Good jobs. Long term jobs. Jobs that can support a family and educate its children. Jobs that give health benefits to its workers. Middle America is hurting and Republicans can help. Just pull your heads out of the sand and look around. There is a real issue in every direction. Issues needing your help.



You guys need to regroup and reorganize. Find meaningful issues to solve and get busy. Again, jobs are the first issue to resolve. Then Education, health, environment and the list goes on.



Roll up your sleeves and get busy. Herbert Hoover needs your help. So does America.

Alley Oop for President

Do you remember the old Rod Serling program called “Twilight Zone? A 1960s TV program filled with ghastly surprises and irony. Endings bordering on the odd and bazaar. Things you would not have expected or wished you hadn’t witnessed. Horrific. Paranormal. Out of body. Ghostly. An sometimes most frightening. Fade to black. Oooooo!

This is what I think of when I view the press conferences and debates of the current crop of Republican Presidential candidates. Certainly a motley crew of misfits. Paranormal. Ghastly. Frightening.

Candidates saying things one should not let their children hear. Candidates possibly coming from another planet. Perhaps from another universe. Coming from far away in a distance galaxy. Many light-years away. Many generations of cultures away. All caught up in a time warp. Maybe creatures from America 950 BC. Cave men. Prehistoric in manners and thinking. Certainly a motley crew. Please! Fade to black. Get out of here. Leave us alone.

Put down your mouse and pick up a newspaper

My twelfth grade civics teacher would probably wet his pants, if he could hear what the current presidential candidates are saying. My teacher would say, “Don’t they read the newspaper? Haven’t they ever read American history?”

It is amazing what ignorance these guys and gal display. To me it is most embarrassing when they speak in public. How did they ever graduate from high school? What self-respecting college or university would admit them into their institution of higher learning? God save us from this obvious display of lack of education.

And this is not to mention just a lack of general knowledge. There are newspapers, magazines, and books that are being overlooked by these candidates. What on earth is on their reading list? The funnies? Sporting news? Gourmet magazine? What?

I hate to say it but these candidates are S-T-U-P-I-D! Unaware, ill-informed, and outright ignoramuses. Holy Moly!

Letter to our local editor, the Tulsa World

Letter to the Editor: Party of the people. Dan Nerren, Sand Springs. Let's face it. President Obama is not going to get any help from the Republicans in turning this economy around. And why should he? An improving economy will only help Obama's re-election chances. This puts the Republicans in the position of working against the interests of the American people. As the Republicans see it, a failing economy means improved re-election chances for themselves. While the Democrats generally supported the President's Jobs Act, all the Republicans voted against it. The Republicans must be hoping the American people have a short memory. I know which party is for the American people. It is the Democrat Party(editor's note: So are we Independents). By their fruits yee shall run from them

To watch and listen how Republican candidates have regarded and debated each other recently on TV is a classic example of “Man’s Inhumanity to Man.” Cruel reckless accusations loaded with cheap shots. Firing away indiscriminately at the closes political target trying their very best not to discharge a live load into one’s own foot.

Maybe I’m mistaken. Aren’t these gentlemen and Lady supposed to be moral Christian men and women? If you apply the “Fruit” test (by their fruits yee shall know them) that alone indicates they must be from some other lower moral order. What happened to the “Golden Rule?” What happened to “Love thy neighbor?” What happened to “Do unto others?” What happened to humility, charity, meekness, patience, forgiveness, and other virtues as Jesus once spoke of?

Judging by their fruits, I would hazard to guess these political combatants to be less than human. Possibly ape like and practicing Darwinism. The survival of the fittest. More like survival of the meanest and dirtiest fighters. Absolutely shooting from the hip at close range with falsehood and defamation.

Do we really want these kinds of amoral individuals as our country’s political leaders? God help us all if we do. God bless America anyway.

Letter to the Editor: A king of denial. Katherine Horton, Tulsa. Sen. James M. Inhofe’s denial of climate change and his contempt for climate scientists and environmentalists are nothing but collusive trickery to promote his agenda of protecting the oil and gas industry. We are already witnessing overwhelming evidence of global climate change: drought (especially here in the Southern Plains, where our farmers are struggling), record heat and cold, rising ocean levels and temperatures, accelerating polar ice melt, upward shift of plant and animal ranges, changes in growing seasons, and extreme weather events. The parallel rise of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels and the Earth’s temperature throughout recorded history cannot be denied. Inhofe’s vision is not only myopic, but incredibly disingenuous. His statement that the notion of global warming is “the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people” is a cynical ruse meant to indoctrinate and distort the overwhelming scientific evidence. To ignore and ridicule this evidence is nothing short of extreme and willful negligence by someone who was elected to protect the health and welfare of his constituents, not the bottom line of his corporate benefactors. If he were simply a science skeptic, would he be making every effort to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air and Water Acts? Self-serving politics and corporate protection are not what we need. We need leaders with a far-reaching perspective and a true respect for life. For Inhofe to willfully deny reality is not only folly, but a dereliction of duty.

Do you remember George W Bush? The guy who left us with this big time recession. Also, hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work and many homeless. George Bush the same guy who left us with two zillion dollar Middle East wars. Wars that lead us to nowhere and left us with thousands of military service members dead and disabled. Plus GWB bailed out failing banks and insurance companies, which benefited no one, except the big banks and the insurance companies. Leaving the taxpayer with the unpaid tax bill. Remember that George W Bush huh?

Well, don’t hold your breath but about a dozen presidential candidates just like him want to be your next president in 2012. Are you ready for another economy killing round of far right wacky voodoo economist and warmongers? Haven’t got your fill yet? Yes, they are a coming. They are crawling all over Iowa and New Hampshire. In every church, school, restaurant, and any public place where a dozen or more willing listeners might stand or sit. Coming like hound dogs on the hunt. In your library and out in the cornfields. Coming with bags filled with lobbyist money. I’ll promise you anything. Just vote for me and not the other guy or gal. Ya gatta vote for me. I’m the only anointed one.”

Anyway, they want your vote. They want your cash. They want your unquestioning support. They will talk about jobs but have no workable program to put Americans back to work. They want to trade in your Social Security equity for some high-risk investments. They want to dismantle your Medicare and raise your health care costs. Whatever it takes to get your protected money. Knock it out of your hands like a defensive lineman after the ball. “No one should be burdened with SSI payments when they could easily hand it over to careful and pleasant Wall Street bankers.”

Nonetheless, more of the same is coming to a soapbox near you. Promising the same as George W Bush. Shrink government. Grow the military. Tax cuts for the rich. Send jobs overseas. Pay zero interest on savings accounts. Pollute the air. Poison the ground water. Do whatever it takes to drill an oil well in every acre across America. Then continue to borrow and spend just like George W bush did. Is this what you want in 2012?

If we’re not careful, it will be 2007 all over again. Remember?
