Working Moms verses Stay at home moms? I really don’t think there is such an issue except in the press. Moms on Moms makes good tabloid. But anyway here is a headline from USA Today:
“Democrat's 'work' comment leaves everyone all worked up By Jackie Kucinich The presidential campaign exploded Thursday into a bitter debate over women's work, a day after a Democratic adviser made a dismissive remark about stay-at-home mom Ann Romney, wife of the GOP candidate Mitt Romney. Wednesday night…”
Read the entire story in today’s USA Today.
First of all it was not a Democrat’s statement. It was the sole opinion of Hillary Rosen who happens to be a Democrat. Ms. Rosen was not speaking for all Democrats. However I do understand what she was trying to say but that’s beside the point. Unfortunately the interpretation is in the ear of the beholder and can be construed in any biased fashion to work for or against any political cause. And in this case work against all Democrats. Even though she has since apologized to Ms Romney. The President dismissed the statement as misspoken and not part of the Democrat’s talking points. .
So Ms Rosen has issued her apology, then the president has refuted the statement as misguided, therefore Ms Romney should accept the withdrawal of the ill spoken statement. And I think she has.
However, the “Bomb sniffing” press and all the electronic media including talk radio will continue to hammer Ms. Rosen in to infinite and infamous shame. Only because it is meaty press. Something to create a high profile media circus. And as we all know, Media circus’s are what fuels Radio, TV, and papers advertisements. Sort of like pouring controversy gasoline on a great media fire. “Boys, watch it blaze while our ratings go up and up. “Bring it on!”
In the meantime leaving Ms Rosen being burned at the stake, Democrats with a black eye, and president Obama wishing only he could speak for most Democrats. And again, only to sell media hype and soap opera tabloid. None the less, the Media has struck again. Claimed another victim in the partisan wars. And the list of gaffs have been coming fast and furious. Remember Rick Perry? Earlier flip flopping Rick Romney? Remember Herman Cain? And the list seems endless.
All of this media circus is sort of like Roman Emperor Caesar and in this case the media. Caesar and the media watching the political gladiators kill off each other only for the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Such great sport. Finally the Media ratings and ad sells go up and all at the expense of folks with misstated pronouncements. Ms Rosen, rest in peace.
